Contemporary Lounge Chairs

Everybody uses lounge chairs, whether they are called settees or sofa chairs the are essentially lounge chairs. People love coming home from a hard day's work and just collapsing in a huge, soft, comfortable lounge chair. It is the perfect way to relax and unwind. In fact, contemporary lounge chairs have been designed to provide as much comfort as possible to the person sitting in it.

The original lounge chairs, what some might call vintage lounge chairs, were basically ordinary chairs with extra cushion in them. However, these were only the indoor lounge chairs. There were also outdoor lounge chairs that were of a different design entirely. These were usually made of wood and did not have originally have any cushion on them. They did however, incorporate a reclining back rest and could go completely horizontal like a bed. These chairs were mainly used for sunbathing or relaxing near a pool. Later lounge chairs also included a separate foot rest that could be placed in front of the chair for people to put their feet up on. These designs were usually quite rudimentary and provided only basic comforts.

On the other hand, contemporary lounge chairs are a breed apart from the predecessors. In this day and age, fashion governs a lot in life. Previous lounge chair designs produced bulky, although comfortable, chairs. These days, the designs boast top quality comfort as well as fashion sense. Modern contemporary lounge chairs use the latest available technology to provide users with as much comfort as can be packed into a neat, compact chair. In fact, some contemporary lounge chairs have been designed in such a way that the person sitting in it simply does not need to get up. For example a certain manufacturer of contemporary lounge chairs, aptly named La-Z Boy, have designed a chair that includes a built-in mini refrigerator, as well as a home theatre system with surround sound speakers in the headrest and electronic reclining features. The only thing required for this rather advanced contemporary lounge chair to operate is an active power supply, and drinks in the fridge.

Lounge chairs have come a long way from their early days, yet most of the same designs still remain, only that there have been many improvements made to them. One of the earliest designs, the Ottoman, which was mentioned earlier with the reclining chair and separate foot rest still exist. The only difference is that the way they look has been changed significantly, with newer cushion designs and fabrics been introduced to give it that modern, and even futuristic look.

Contemporary lounge chairs have become a mainstay in almost every household in the world and will continue to be that into the near future with newer designs and technologies being used to provide the maximum comfort and newest fashion available.
